That’s the Site — web studio

Websites, built like they matter.

That’s the Site is a web design studio for businesses. Before we design a pixel, we study — your industry, your market, your customers, and the people inside your business. Then we build: engineered to be fast, designed to be beautiful, shaped to be useful.

Deep thinking first, then three crafts in one artifact. Scroll and we’ll show you each.

Taste, with a compile step.

Every design we ship had to defeat its alternatives first — and then pass checks that don’t care about anyone’s feelings: performance budgets, accessibility rules, every link alive.

Verified where it can be measured. Judged where it can’t. That’s the whole trick.

One studio, three crafts.

Design decides how it feels. Engineering decides how it runs. Utility decides whether it was worth building at all.

Most sites get one of the three. Ours ship with all three — that’s the job.

Start with one sentence.

The bar at the bottom of this page is always listening. Tell it about your business — one sentence is a brief enough beginning.

A human reads every message and replies personally.

01 — Design

First, it has to be beautiful.

Typography does the talking.

Ninety percent of a website is words, and words are letterforms. We obsess over the things visitors feel but never name: measure, leading, hierarchy, rhythm.

A page that reads effortlessly is a page that gets read.

Restraint is a skill.

One confident accent beats six loud colors. We build palettes, spacing scales, and component rules that stay coherent from the hero to the footer — and still feel like you.

Design systems, not one-off pages: the whole site holds together.

Your business, translated.

You already have a brand — even if it’s just a logo, a truck, and the way you answer the phone. We translate that into type, color, and layout that feel unmistakably like you, only sharper.

The test is recognition at a glance: a customer should know whose site this is before they read a word.

Motion with a reason.

Animation should guide the eye, not beg for it. Every transition on this page is short, eased, and silent for people who ask their system for reduced motion.

If a movement doesn’t explain something, it doesn’t ship.

02 — Engineering

Fast is a feature.

Speed you can measure.

Every second of load time costs visitors — that’s measured economics, not aesthetics. Our builds carry performance budgets enforced by automated checks: if a page gets slow, the build fails, not your customer’s patience.

This page you’re reading loads with zero external requests. That’s the standard.

Everyone gets in.

Accessibility isn’t a checkbox we sell as an extra. Keyboard paths, focus states, contrast, screen-reader structure, reduced-motion support — built in, tested, and checked by programs before a human ever reviews the page.

A site that excludes people is broken, full stop.

Found, indexed, alive.

Search engines reward what users reward: fast pages, real structure, honest metadata. We build that in from the first commit — semantic markup, clean metadata, sitemaps — and nothing rots: links are checked like code.

No SEO theater. Just a site that’s easy to find and works when found.

It stays up. It stays yours.

Hosting, certificates, updates, backups — handled, monitored, and boring in the best way. If something breaks at 2 a.m., the alert goes to us, not to you.

And everything we build is yours: the design, the code, the content. No lock-in, no hostage websites.

03 — Utility

Built to do a job.

A path, not a maze.

Every page gets one obvious next step. Call, book, buy, visit — whatever your business actually needs, the page is shaped so the right action is also the easiest one.

Confused visitors don’t convert; they leave.

One tap to you.

The shortest distance between a visitor and your phone ringing is a design decision. Contact paths are placed, sized, and worded like they matter — because they’re the point of the whole site.

If reaching you takes effort, the website is failing at its only job.

Words that work.

Design gets attention; words close. We write the copy with you — headlines that say what you do in plain language, and calls to action that sound like an invitation, not a command.

No jargon, no “welcome to our website.” Your customers’ questions, answered in the order they’d ask them.

Measured, not hoped.

We wire every site to answer a simple question: is it working? Visits, calls, form fills — events you can count, in reports a person can read.

No vanity dashboards. Numbers that map to your phone and your till.

04 — Process

Understand first. Then design.

Research before pixels.

Every project starts with study, not software: your industry and where it’s heading, the market you sell in, the customers you want — and the people inside your business, whose knowledge and state of mind your website has to carry.

Design that starts from understanding doesn’t need luck. It has reasons.

Every idea gets an opponent.

No design ships unchallenged. Directions are argued against each other — type, layout, color, message — and the loser’s good points get kept, not discarded.

What survives that room has earned its place on your page.

Verified, then judged.

Before anything reaches you, automated checks verify what can be measured: links, budgets, accessibility, metadata. Then experienced humans review what can’t be measured: whether it’s any good.

Nothing ships on “looks fine to me.”

You see it before it’s final.

You get a private preview link early — real pages, not screenshots — and two structured revision rounds. Your comments go straight onto the element they concern.

Nothing launches until you’ve seen exactly what your customers will see.

05 — The work

Judge the evidence, not the adjectives.

What we build.

Business websites, full redesigns, landing pages that have one job, and the design systems that keep a growing site coherent.

If it lives in a browser and has to win customers, it’s our department — and there are levels to this craft. We work at the one where a website becomes an asset.

Before → after is our favorite genre.

Most of our work starts from a site that’s quietly underperforming: slow, dated, hard to use on a phone. The transformation is the satisfying part — same business, taken seriously at last.

Show us yours. The comparison is free.

After launch, we stay on the line.

Websites aren’t statues. Seasonal offers, new photos, price changes, a fresh post — small updates keep a site alive, and we handle them as a standing service.

The goal is a site that’s current next year, not just impressive on day one.

This page is the standing proof.

You’re looking at our portfolio’s first entry: researched, designed, and built by the same process we’d run for you, held to the same standards, checked the same way.

If we can’t hold your attention here, we have no business asking for your customers’.

06 — Questions

Fair questions, straight answers.

“What does it cost?”

A fixed price per project, quoted in writing before any work starts — based on scope: pages, content, integrations. No hourly meter running in the background, no surprise invoices.

And the first look costs nothing: tell us about your business and we’ll show you what we’d do before you commit to anything.

“How long does it take?”

Days to a first preview, typically one to three weeks to launch — the variable is content and your revision rounds, not our build speed.

You’ll never wait weeks to see something: the preview link comes early and it’s real pages, not mockups.

“Who owns what?”

You do. The design, the code, the content, the domain — all yours, in writing. We host and maintain it if you want that; you can take everything and leave whenever you like.

A website you can’t walk away with isn’t yours. Ours are.

“What do you need from me?”

One conversation and whatever you already have — a logo, photos, an old site, a few sentences about the business. We handle the writing, design, and build.

Your job is two approvals: the preview, and the launch. Ours is everything in between.

07 — The notebook

Research, written down.

Essays on deep web design: what makes a business website actually work — the research, the judgment, and the details most sites skip.
